Illustration/Animation by

Welcome. I am Basia (short for Barbara). I'm an illustrator and visual communicator. I studied Access Foundation and BA (Hons) Illustration and Animation at University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in the historical city of Canterbury, England. I'm currently completing my postgraduate studies at UAL: Camberwell College of Arts in London.

My practice progressed from fine art-based media towards illustration, visual communication, and editorial-style work due to my interest in dissecting a topic through extensive research, so it can be visually expressed without the overcomplicating nature of words. If I use text, I like an allegorical and metaphorical approach.

My favourite topic to illustrate is human relationships and associated narratives with autobiographical objects, within that, visualising nostalgia and culture through sentimentality evoked by tactile objects.

I use combined methods of both digital and analogue. I like to enhance illustrations with organic textures because of their capability to completely transform the mood of an image. For the same reason, I often use unconventional methods of mark-making such as drawing with handmade tools. I always seek to add personality to my images, which requires me to try new ways of working. My current obsession is to get better at lino printing.
